Things to Remember as You Pursue Advanced Training
(Part 4 of Mindful Professional Series)
By: Lindsay Miller
This is a continuation in our series about what to do after your yoga or mindfulness certification. Read Part 1 here. Part 2 here. Part 3 here.
You have your certification as a Yoga or Mindfulness Teacher. You are ready to teach. Maybe you have already started teaching.
Getting out there and teaching is the most important thing you can do to grow in your practice and as a yoga and mindfulness professional.
But an important part of yoga and mindfulness is the idea of constant improvement. This idea is called Kaizen in Japanese, which literally means “change is good”.
To master anything we need dedication, perseverance and the support of others to continue to improve. Becoming a certified teacher is a huge accomplishment you should be very proud of. But the ultimate goal of yoga and mindfulness is true mastery.
It is important to appreciate where you are at while still looking to the future. Otherwise, we can quickly start to feel stuck.
You do need some experience teaching in order to start to understand where you want to go. You will gain an idea of what skills you want to cultivate and what unique gifts you offer. But hopefully you are committed to your practice and are ready to pursue the next level in your personal and professional growth.
It’s not uncommon for teachers to feel adrift or uncertain as they start to teach. The process of teaching is hard work. You will have to figure out a lot of things on your own. And some teachers start to wonder if they even want to teach.
An advanced training can not only give you more skills as a teacher but give you the support you need to find a real career as a mindful professional. And as you learn more about opportunities in yoga and mindfulness, you may decide you really aren’t that interested in teaching. You may be more interested in individual sessions or more therapeutic approaches. This is why we offer advanced trainings in yoga and mindfulness… to give people a more advanced career path and the training they need to work on a deeper level with others.
And you will be able to work with other like-minded students who have a similar passion for excellence and personal growth. The connections you make are just as valuable as the tools you will receive to support your professional path. An advanced training will make everything that much easier. You won’t have to waste time figuring everything out for yourself. Plus, you will have more connections and support when you need it!
